The documentary follows Nikki for five years as she moves from her safe primary school to high school. 12-year-old Nikki is a bright kid who loves to draw and is excited about going to High School. Like any 12-year-old, she’s about to become a teenager and experience all the challenges of adolescence. However, at home, things are very different from normal. Nikki has to care for her mentally disturbed mother with no help from her absent and drug addicted father. NIKKI follows this gifted teenager as she grows up in a dangerously unstable family and navigates between the search for her own identity and loyalty towards her parents.
